Ajax TOCCO Shanghai has installed and commissioned an 18MW, 60MTPH induction furnace for in-line pipe heating prior to stretch reduction at the Baoji Petroleum Steel Pipe Co Ltd (BSG) mill in Shaanxi Province, China.

The 7-5/8" OD, 0.250" to 0.550" wall carbon steel mother tube is formed in an ERW welding mill before entering the innovative 18MW, 60MTPH Ajax furnace system which utilizes twelve (12) solenoid induction coils and (6) 3000 KW Ajax Pacer II inverters to uniformly heat the tube from ambient to stretch reducing temperature.

The tube is conveyed through the induction coils using a roll conveyor with twelve (12) bottom rolls with six (6) top pressure rolls all controlled by an advanced Siemens (S7 PLC and HMI) automation and control system. Cooling water is for the induction system is supplied by six (6) pump stations with heat exchangers.
